The verdict 4.4/5.0

Wilson NXT Power is a premium multifilament tennis string built for players seeking extra pop and a plush, arm-friendly feel. It's especially popular among club players, seniors, and anyone recovering from tennis elbow, thanks to its shock-absorbing construction. While it won't outlast a polyester string in terms of durability, the trade-off in comfort and added power makes it a strong choice for those prioritizing feel over longevity.

The long read

Wilson NXT Power in depth

Wilson NXT Power tennis string builds on the reputation of Wilson's original NXT multifilament line by adding an extra emphasis on pop and pace for players who want more free power out of their racket setup. Constructed from a dense bundle of fine synthetic fibers wrapped in a proprietary polyurethane coating, this string mimics the soft, plush feel of natural gut while delivering the added elasticity that makes ball pocketing deeper and rebound energy noticeably stronger. The multifilament core is engineered to flex more freely than a standard synthetic string, which translates into extended dwell time on impact and a springboard-like launch as the ball leaves the strings, making it a strong choice for baseline players and all-court competitors who rely on racket head speed rather than sheer swing size to generate pace.

Excellent power boost off the string bed— Court notes, 31 sessions / 55h

Beyond its power characteristics, Wilson NXT Power is prized for the comfort it brings to the arm, a quality that stems directly from its soft multifilament construction. Players dealing with tennis elbow or general arm fatigue often gravitate toward this string because it absorbs shock more effectively than stiffer polyester or monofilament options, cushioning the vibrations that travel up through the frame on off-center hits. This dampening effect doesn't come at the expense of feel; touch players will still notice a responsive sensation on drop shots, volleys, and touch shots near the net, since the string retains enough sensitivity to communicate ball contact clearly. The coating also helps the string resist fraying and maintain its tension profile longer than untreated natural gut, giving players a bit more durability without sacrificing the plush response that defines the NXT family.

Available in a range of gauges, typically 15, 16, 16L, and 17, Wilson NXT Power allows players to fine-tune the balance between added power, comfort, and control based on their swing style and string-bed preferences. Thinner gauges enhance feel and spin potential while thicker options add a touch more durability for those who string frequently or hit with heavy topspin. It performs well both as a full bed and in hybrid setups, often paired with a more control-oriented polyester in the mains to temper its lively response while preserving comfort in the crosses. Overall, Wilson NXT Power stands out as a go-to choice for recreational and competitive players alike who want a forgiving, powerful string that reduces arm strain while still delivering the lively, gut-like performance that has made the NXT series a mainstay in the Wilson string lineup.

Saved my elbow

Switched from poly to NXT Power after developing tennis elbow and the difference was night and day. Still get decent pop on my serves without the arm pain.

Great feel, moderate durability

Love the comfort and power this string provides. I do have to restring a bit more often than with polyester, but it's worth it for how good my arm feels.

DR Diego R. Verified 20 Sep 2023

Solid choice for doubles players

Good touch on volleys and enough pop for putaway shots. Tension held up reasonably well over a few weeks of regular play.

Best multifilament I've tried

Compared this to a couple other multifilaments and NXT Power feels the softest while still giving good power. Highly recommend for players with any arm sensitivity.

Good but not for heavy spin

As a heavy topspin player, I noticed the string notches quicker than I'd like. Still, the comfort is excellent, so I use it for practice sessions.
